Join Charlotte as she takes children through a fun-filled day while discovering the body in French and English. From waving to her neighbour and playing with friends to making music, exercising, eating her favourite foods and dancing with Hugo, Charlotte’s everyday adventures provide a natural and memorable way for children to learn the names of different parts of the body.
Throughout the story, Charlotte introduces children to her body through familiar situations. She waves her hand, turns her head, uses her arms while playing, taps her fingers to music and remembers her forehead and chin when putting on sun cream. Along the way, children also meet Charlotte’s friends, including Hugo and Finn, and see how we use different parts of our bodies throughout the day.
The story provides a rich context for developing French vocabulary and phrases around the body, movement and everyday actions. Children hear and practise language including le corps, la tête, le bras, la main, la jambe, le pied, l'œil, le nez, la bouche, le cou, le poignet, le coude, les cheveux, le front, la langue, le menton, l'oreille, la joue and les fesses. The workbook also introduces useful verbs and action words through the story and song, helping children move beyond simply memorising individual nouns.
The accompanying My Body / J’aime mon corps song gives children plenty of opportunities to hear, repeat, sing and physically act out their new vocabulary. Children sing about their body while moving their head, arms, hands, legs and feet, before progressing to actions such as jumping, turning, shouting, stamping and shaking. The lyrics for the French and English versions of the song are included in the workbook, making it easy to combine language learning with music and movement.
But My Body is much more than a vocabulary workbook. Charlotte’s day introduces children to the importance of looking after their bodies and developing healthy everyday habits. Finn’s healthy-life tips encourage children to stay active, eat a varied diet, drink plenty of water, look after their teeth, keep their brains busy and get enough sleep. These themes create opportunities to talk about health and wellbeing while continuing to build language naturally.
The workbook also encourages children to explore how their bodies work through language, observation and play. Children identify body parts, match vocabulary to pictures, complete activities using characters from the story and practise using French in different contexts. The activities progress through Let’s go!, Challenging and Tricky! levels, allowing children to build confidence before moving on to more demanding language tasks.
