Join Granny and the children as they welcome the arrival of spring and discover all the changes happening around them. From preparing the vegetable garden and watching the spring flowers appear to Easter egg hunts, hungry animals and the return of warmer weather, this gentle seasonal story gives children a colourful introduction to spring in both English and French.
The story follows the family as winter comes to an end and Granny begins getting her garden ready for the new season. The children help her plant and prepare the vegetable patch, while around them the natural world begins to wake up. Birds return, flowers bloom and animals become more active. Easter is also approaching, bringing chocolate eggs, family traditions and plenty of excitement.
The module provides a rich context for developing French vocabulary connected to spring, Easter, animals, plants, the garden and nature. Children learn words such as le printemps, le jardin, le nid, la cloche, le lapin, le poussin, le chien, le coucou, l’abeille and la fleur, alongside further vocabulary including les œufs de Pâques, la jonquille, le bulbe, le bourgeon, le potager, les empreintes de pattes and la chasse aux œufs.
The accompanying spring song / La chanson gives children another opportunity to hear and repeat the vocabulary through music. With buzzing bees, spring flowers and familiar seasonal words appearing throughout the song, children can reinforce their learning through rhythm, repetition and singing.
But Spring – Le Printemps is much more than a seasonal vocabulary workbook. The module encourages children to notice what is happening in the natural world around them — from new flowers and leaves appearing to birds returning, animals becoming more active and the weather beginning to change. It connects language learning with the real signs of spring children can look for outside.
The workbook also introduces children to spring celebrations around the world, exploring traditions from countries including India, Switzerland, Holland, Japan and Spain. This gives children an opportunity to discover that the arrival of spring is celebrated in many different ways across different countries and cultures.
